What kinds of disabilities qualify for Social Security help?
It may be difficult to meet requirements, as they are strict, but the main factor is a new inability to work. An applicant cannot do the work that he or she has done previously and is unable to adjust to available work because of a medical condition or injury.
How severe must a disability be to collect payments?
In general, a qualifying condition must last for at least a year from the time of the injury. A condition that is expected to result in death, even indirectly, may also allow a condition to qualify.
What is the best way to apply for benefits?
People may apply online, in person or on the phone. Online may be the best option for people pressed for time, as it is faster than the other options. Ohioans may expect a wait time of three months while a state agency makes judgments on applications.
How can a lawyer help?
A lawyer may not be required for the original applications, although one may be useful in crafting a successful application. An attorney may also help someone who has had a Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) application denied because the appeal process is also lengthy and complicated.
